I Can 'scroll' W/my Finger Thru My Text Outbox But Can't From Inbox- Lg511c

I can "scroll" from message to message from my text Outbox but not from my text Inbox on my LG 511C. Is there a setting that needs to be changed? it is terrible inconvenient to have to go back to Inbox maid screen to find a message.
