Why Does It Turn Right Off?

When my sons leappad is turned on, it immediately turns off. It doesn't get past the "leap frog" page.

Mine started doing the same thing. I got it to work right. Hopefully it lasts. I think it was either the screen or the batteries. There were a couple of barely noticeable crumbs (or something) around the edge of the screen. Also, I had rechargeable batteries. Two were half charged Energizers and two fully charged Duracells. So...

1st

I cleaned the screen well and took a thin piece of paper to get any debris out from under the plastic that sits on the touch screen.

2nd

I put new, fully charged, matching batteries in it.

3rd

It came on right so I recalibrated the touch screen (easier than it sounds). It was a little slow at recalibrating which makes me think something was on the screen that was basically pushing buttons. I recalibrated it again and it went smoothly. Now it works fine. Hopefully tomorrow as well.

To recalibrate:

Turn it on

At the login page hold the "home" button and press the "volume up" button. Release them.

It should take you to the "parents screen".

Go to "calibrate"

It'll show an "x" for you to tap on. It does about 5 x's.

You're done.

P.S. Leapfrog is really good about their warranties. If it breaks and they can't fix it over the phone, they have you write on it in marker, email them a picture of it and they send a new one in a week or two. They have trouble shooting guides on their site.
