Model Medc300xw Electrical Problems

Our dryer turned itself on when switch was in the off position. This occurred early in the morning when I was in close proximity working in my home office adjacent to the laundry. It only ran for one complete turn of the drum and shut off. After this happened I turned the unit into the on position and it did not turn on. So, I turned the unit back to the off position and it turned on. When I opened the dryer door, it emitted a strong burning smell into the house; It was enough to cause me a minor asthma attack. This incident was following a repair to have the timer switch replaced by the service technician from the protection plan. The technician told us at the time there was a problem with the motor and they would order the part to repair. They said I could use the dryer and when the part came in they would come back out and make the final repair. I did not expect the dryer to switch itself on.Now we are worried and afraid to plug in the dryer, even after the repairman comes back out to complete the work. Has there been a recall on this model? I have read many complaints about starter switch problems and a burning smell from this model, which leads me to believe this could be a common problem for this particular model. Has Maytag looked into this problem?
