Maytag Dryer Stops Heat After 5 Min.

Our Maytag dryer starts heating for the first 3 to 5 minutes but stops heating when timmer doesn't advance anymore and only cold air comes out, tried the other different settings of timer and the same thing, does not heat anymor. So i don't know what the real problem is, I can see it heat up if I unplug and plug back in but it stops heating after 3 to 5 min.

dryer you has a device called a thermistor. This device senses the wetness of the exhaust air to tell the dryer when to turn the heater on and off. If this goes bad it typically gives the exact symptoms that you are having. You need to check the thermistor to make sure it is working correctly. The only way to test a thermistor is to check its resistance as compared to ambient temperature. I am sending you a chart that gives you the resistance that it should be at a certain ambient temperature. Make sure you unplug the dryer prior to doing the check. I am also sending you a link to your dryer that shows where the thermistor is located. The thermistor is #10 on the blower-heater-motor diagram.

THERMISTOR RESISTANCE
TEMP. ° F RES. K Ohm TEMP. ° F RES. K Ohm
50° 19.9 100° 5.7
60° 15.3 110° 4.7
70° 11.9 120° 3.7
80° 9.2 130° 3.1
90° 7.4 140° 2.5
