Here's a step-by-step guide to tightening the clutches on your Meade LX850:
  1. Start by identifying the clutch adjustment screws. They are usually located near the base of the telescope mount, close to where the axes are attached. Look for small screws that can be turned with a screwdriver.
  2. To tighten the clutch on the declination axis, locate the declination clutch adjustment screw. It may be labeled "Dec" or have an arrow pointing to the declination axis. Turn this screw clockwise (to the right) to increase the clutch tightness. Start with small adjustments, and test the tightness after each turn.
  3. To tighten the clutch on the right ascension axis, locate the right ascension clutch adjustment screw. It may be labeled "RA" or have an arrow pointing to the right ascension axis. Similarly, turn this screw clockwise (to the right) to increase the clutch tightness. Again, make small adjustments and test the tightness as you go.
  4. After making adjustments to both clutches, test the movement of the telescope in both axes. The clutches should be tight enough to prevent any unwanted movement, but not so tight that it becomes difficult to move the telescope manually.
  5. Repeat the adjustment process if needed, making small increments until you achieve the desired clutch tightness.

Remember to be gentle when making adjustments and avoid overtightening the clutches, as it can potentially damage the telescope mount. It's always a good idea to refer to the telescope's user manual for specific instructions related to your model, as there may be slight variations in the adjustment process.
