In order to perform a Windows 7 password reset succesfully, you're going to need the following:
  • A computer with Windows 7 installed
  • A blank USB flash drive
  • A copy of your Windows 7 installation CD
  1. Log Into Your Computer. This method for performing a Windows 7 password reset involves creating a password recovery disk. As the name implies, this handy little tool will help you in the event that you forget your password and need to perform a Windows 7 password reset. Once logged in, insert your USB flash drive into your computer and navigate from the "Start" menu to "Control Panel." From here, select "User Accounts And Family Saftey" and "User Accounts." Finally, select "Create A Password Reset Disk."
  2. Start The Disk Creation Process. Once you select that option, Windows 7 will automatically start the process of creating a password recovery disk. Follow the on-screen prompts as the disk is being created. When prompted which disk you would like to use, select the removeable USB flash drive you inserted. When asked for your password, enter the administrative password for your computer. Doing these steps will definitely help for when you need to perform a Windows 7 password reset.
  3. When You Need The Disk, Insert It When You Start Your Computer. Once your disk is created, you can insert it when confronted with the prospect of needing to log into your computer without your password. Doing so will cause Windows 7 to reset your password and allow you to access your computer files as you need them!
  4. Reformat Your Computer. If you did not have the foresight to create a password recovery disk, you can simply reinstall your copy of Windows 7 to reset the password. Simply insert your installation CD and start up your computer. Don't worry about losing your files—when installing Windows 7, you'll be given the option of simply moving all of your files to an old Windows folder so that you can rearrange them later. This is a more time-consuming way to perform a Windows 7 password reset, but definitely worth it if you don't have the time or the ability to create a password recovery disk.
