Trans Off

my screen went blank last Friday. i called telus support they said i need to buy a new phone. this morning i plugged in the phone to recharge, the small screen on the outside came on, said it was charging than displayed a note "trans off". could this problem be a setting. the larger screen when i open the phone came on for a short time and than went blank again. Please advise. John K
