Problem With My Car

what does it mean if just last night i was driving down the road and my truck like jumps a little like its trying to go into gear when its already in drive, the rpms go up but the truck doesnt, the overdrive light blinks on and off like its trying to go into overdrive but its off and for the past few weeks its been smelling like its hot but its not running hot and i checked the oil and water.
