2003 Xterra: Refueling Restriction

Just bought it used; when refueling the gas tank the gas backs-up as if the pipe is restricted.  Takes forever to fill.  Using my 2' DeWalt optical camera, I inspected the gas pipe and did not find any obstructions, but did observe scrapes as if someone had jammed something down the pipe. Any suggestions on how to further inspect the gas pipe, or just take it to a service shop?
