1989 Old's Curtlass Cierra F3
When I'm driving in high alttitude and I'm at 35 40 miles per hour and I give the engine gas to get up to speed my car will die out as long as I'm under 40 miles per hour the engine will run fine. What's going on with my car.

Hi! This is because in high altitudes, the air is thinner which means the air:fuel ratio of the engine is becoming richer. At high RPM's, this rich mixture will cause your engine to stutter and cut off. Newer vehicles with electronic fuel systems can adapt to this, however, mechanical fuel systems like the one in your car must be adjusted manually. If you always drive in high altitudes, I reccommend getting your engine tuned for the thinner air.
