1998 Olds 88 Won't Start
I have a '98 OLdsmobile 88, 3.0 V6 engine. for a while now, it's had a slight leak near the gas tank & goes through antifreeze like ice on a hot summer day. But other wise drove normally. Friday, I was driving it and the check engine light began to blink and the engine was sluggish. I was on a Hywy with no real safe to pull over so I had little choice but to drive it to the next place I could pull over safely. When I did so, I heard a loud bang, like a backfire then the car completely died. It will no longer starts and only makes a clicking sound as if the starter isn't engaging. The oil level is good it was low on antifreeze, but it never read hot, as I watch that since I know it has the antifreeze issue. What are some of the things I should have checked? Being a woman I don't want to go into a shop an be taken. I know it doesn't always happen, but I can be very agreeable to things I know little about (I am down right paranoid about my cars and problems).
