I got the unit apart and looked at the battery, but the problem is where to get a new 6VDC battery that fits the unit.  To disassemble, remove the six screws in the back.  The black back half clips to the front silver half in six places.  Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to pry the silver side out away from the black side and each clip will pop loose.  Do this for the three clips on one edge and then the two halves will separate.  Take it apart slowly and look inside to see how the various parts align.  It's a little difficult to reassemble since you need to get the internal springs and tabs lined up correctly on both halves before clipping back together.  Again, I haven't been able to find a new battery yet, but the motor is 6VDC so the battery must be too.
