Image Distorted From Bottom Of Screen Being Black.

I have a Panasonic PT/53WX53G TV and the image is distorted. Part of the screen at the bottom is blacked out and is pushing the rest of the image in an arc. Somebody told me it is a burned out bulb?? Is this something I can fix myself?

This problem is a convergence failure. Most of the times the output IC chips and possibly a couple resistors needs replacement. a shop would charge $200-$300 (more if done in your home).

Your TV is a CRT (cathode-ray-tube or picture tube) driven rear projection TV (no lamps inside). They place a red, green and blue picture tube next to each other and place a lens on each tube. The red and the blue (these are on the sides of the green) are tipped slightly so the center of their picture matches with the green, but being tipped and the lenses causes the raw picture to be trapezoid and the edges to be arced.

To correct for these problems a "convergence circuit" is used to modify the deflection to align the picture geometry of each tube.
