You hook up the DVD to the TV via the output jacks on the DVD player. Since every DVD player is different the output jacks available also varies. The best output jacks would be the HDMI or component (five wired set). There will be a green, blue and red colored video outputs, and a red and white for the stereo (left and right) audio. Just hook jumper cords to these five jacks and match the other ends of these cord to the same color jacks on the "component input" jacks on the TV. Then turn every thing on and change the input on the TV to that input.
