Stitch Length Won't Change, Reverse Won't Engage.

I can't change stitch length (on any stitch type) or backstitch (reverse). Any suggestions?Power comes on, stitch selector works, needle changes position and generally creates the required stitch type (straight, zigzag etc), but the stitch length is very long and won't change.In addition, the reverse button isn't responding, so I can't backstitch to reinforce ends of sewing runs.

This happened to my 'white' sewing machine, the only way to repair it is to take it to the repair place, there is apparently a gear that falls off inside the machine and it it is not easy for someone who has no experience to repair. I am fortunate as my son-in-law used to fix sewing machines for a living.

Reverse Wont engage

When I took mine in for repair for the same problem (no reverse) the technician stated the "contact point" was bad. Meaning when you press the button for reverse, a poor connection is made (or no connection is made) to tell the machine to reverse. He said he was unable to fix it and a replacing it was too expensive and not worth it. Consequently, I am unable to program the length of buttonholes and am regulated to the preset lengths only! Bummer as I need a long one for my current project and am stumped.
