Ac Blowing Hot Air.

I own a 2003 Saab 9-3 convertible. All I'm getting is hot air when AC is on. I checked and added freon it's fine lots of pressure. It appears the compressor comes on briefly then cuts out. It will come on and blow cool air then completely cuts out. Anything I can do other than replace compressor and possible clutch appears to be a very costly repair.
