I Problem With Purple/white Horizontal Lines.

After a recent power outage the tv came back on with moving purple and white horizontal lines. The color wheel was replaced a yr ago. I took like blub from another set and tried...it worked. I then took light blub out and put olb blub back in and it worked. I put tv back in place turned it on and back to purple/white lines. balast?

First of all, there is no way a lamp or ballast can cause lines or bars in the picture. All they do in put out a bright white light, think of it as a powerful flashlight. Either it works of it doesn't.

The light goes through the color wheel and three colors are created (red, green, and blue, and some have a white segment for brighter pictures). Through the color wheel the colors then through the light tunnel (rectangle tube of mirrors), then with lenses it hits the DMD chip (million mirrored device) where the video information is developed, finally the light is pushed through more lenses to a vibrating mirror (Actuator) to the focus lens off a large mirror in the rear of the TV to the screen assembly. The only thing that can cause your symptom is the DMD chip, which is driven from the DMD board. The big question is whether the signal into the DMD board is correct or is it the digital board in the signal cluster, or the DMD is having an intermittent problem. The chip itself when it fails will have a stationary problem. A technician can enter service menu generated test signals to help determine which board is failing. dependent upon which patterns show the problem and where the pattern is made helps in this determination.
