I Have A Samsung Ln26a330j1d Tv.

The tv has no pic but does have vol. Can you give me an idea on what it could be or what should I check first. Thanks Mark

This set is famous for power supply problems, and the range of symptoms are varied, Your problem sounds like you are having problems with the back lights. To see the picture on the LCD screen you must have light shining through it. Behind the LCD glass screen (inside the panel) is an array of thin florescent tubes (similar to those in shop lights) That are controlled by an inverter circuit board. You may see, when you first turn it on, the screen start to glow for a second. If you see this, then you might see that the screen isn't full lit up. Many times you can see which lamp tube isn't properly lighting before the inverter board senses the problem and turns them all off. A technician is needed to determine if it's that stage of the inverter, or the lamp tube. the board is available, but to get the tube replaced will require an entire panel (very expensive). If you never see any slight glow when it's first turned on, then it's probably the inverter board (http://www.shopjimmy.com/cmo-27-d014913-backlight-inverter.htm)

Before you do anything you should first remove the back and check for capacitors on the power supply that has the top puffed up slightly. If you find any, replace them. These parts (capacitors) are available at places like Radio Shack. you can either replace them yourself, or take the power supply board and the capacitors to a local TV shop and they will likely charge $20 to replace them for you. The power supply is the module that the AC cord plugs into, and the value of the capacitors is printed on the side. Normally the bad ones are rated at 16vdc and they could be 1000 to 2200 microfarads. These capacitors will look like a cylinder with a silver top. Google bad capacitors on LCD HDTV and you will see mass data.
