Ice Cube Smells

I bought a house that includes a 2011 model RF266AERS/XAA Samsung refrigerator. The water from the interior dispensor is ok, but the ice cubes smell very chemical--kind of a sickly sweet odor, and they taste bad. What's wrong? I disconnected the water filter, and the ice cubes still smell bad.
