No Outgoing Email Messages On My New Phone

I have an old email account which is a netscape account, but this is now owned by aol. My address is [email protected], but the phone would only allow me to enter the email as [email protected]. I can receive emails, but cannot respond or send outgoing emails? They just stay in my Outbox wtih an error: connection error. My google accound does send outgoing messages without any problems. Can you help?
