Starter Location

I have a 2002 Saturn L300, 3.0 engine. I need to take out the starter but I can't find it! I have looked all over the entire engine from all sides and can't find it; where did they hide it? Please tell me specifically where to find the starter, thank you.

In order for you to take out the starter, you need to park the Saturn L300 on a firm, level ground. Then turn off all lights, accessories and the ignition too. Allow the engine to cool before you raise the hood of your Van then disconnect the battery's negative cable with a wrench.

Next, raise the car up using the jack and support it with jack stands. From the right front wheel, remove the wheel trim using the flat-head screwdriver. With a lug-nut wrench, loosen the lug nuts on the right front wheel with the lug-nuts and remove the wheel. On the right side of the engine, you can see the starter mounted to the flywheel housing, above the oil pan. Using wrench, remove the two electrical connection nuts then loosen the electrical harness bracket with a wrench and move it aside.

From the starter assembly, remove the lower bolt then jack up the car off the jack stands. Also remove the jack stands then you may now lower the car to the ground. From the starter assembly, remove the upper bolt then move the starter out of the flywheel housing. Move also the starter away from the engine block to remove it.

For reassembly, just reverse the disassembly procedure. With a torque wrench, tighten the starter bolts to 30 pound-feet and the B+ cable nut to 80 pound-inches. Tighten the S-terminal wire nut to 40 pound-inches, next is, tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to 46 pound-feet and then tighten them in a star pattern to 92 pound-feet. Lastly, tighten the battery's negative cable bolt to 13 pound-feet.
