What Do You Do To Check Engine Light Stays On Problem?

Most auto parts stores (AutoZone, Advance Auto, Trak Auto, etc...) provide a free loan of a code scanner (called an OBD tool). The cause of the check engine light can be anything from a serious problem to something as simple as leaving the gas cap too loose (really!). Once you have the code, you can do something about it. The OBD scanner can also be used to clear the codes, but if the problem remains, the check engine light will come back on.
