Washing Machine Stuck With Water And Clothes Inside

I have a Kenmore model 110.22702100 washing machine. I put in a medium-size load this morning and set the dial to Ultra Clean: short. It filled with water, and everything seemed ok. Then after a half hour, it became very quiet. I looked inside and saw that it was filled with water, and the dial was in the "off" position. I put the dial into the "on" position, but nothing happened. I've been experimenting with different dial settings for an hour, but nothing seems to work. I've checked the fuse box and reset the fuse for the washer. This, too, has had no effect.
