If the bobbin winder on your Singer 7470 Confidence sewing machine stops after 4 seconds and makes a screeching noise, there are a few potential causes:
  1. The bobbin winder tension is too tight: The bobbin winder tension should be adjusted so that it is snug but not too tight. If the tension is too tight, it can cause the bobbin winder to stop after a few seconds and make a screeching noise.
  2. The bobbin winder belt is loose or damaged: The bobbin winder belt may be loose or damaged, causing it to slip and the winder to stop.
  3. The bobbin winder gear is damaged: The bobbin winder gear may be damaged or worn, causing it to make noise and stop working.
  4. The bobbin case is not correctly installed: The bobbin case needs to be correctly installed for the bobbin winder to function properly.

You should take your machine to a qualified technician to diagnose and repair the problem. The technician will have to inspect the bobbin winder tension, belt, gear, and bobbin case, and replace any parts as necessary.

In the meantime, you can try to adjust the tension of the bobbin winder, check the belt, check the gear and the bobbin case, and if it doesn't solve the issue it's advisable to take it to the nearest service center.
