If you are seeing the red, green, and blue portions of the picture separated and arced on the edges, then the two convergence output IC's that have failed. The damaged IC's damages the resistors in the circuit and likely have blown the fuses to this circuit. It is recommended to replace both IC at the same time: http://www.encompassparts.com/item/5933642/Japanese_Semis/STK392-560/Power_Amp_Ic

Taking it a shop will likely cost $325, more if it's done in the home

It sounds like something that has happened to my television before. The rainbow color was caused by a magnet of some type. Anything that has a magnet of any kind will create this problem when it is placed to close to your television set. I had a car audio speaker that i set by the t.v. set not realizing it had magnets of any kind that caused this same problem for me and my t.v. set. I moved the speaker and the color started to correct itself over time. So look to see if anything around the area that your television is kept has a magnet of any kind, then move it immediately and be patient as it corrects over time.  goodluck, hope this helps
