My Lg 290c When Dialing I Can't Hear It Ringing Unless It's On Speaker.

I have to have my LG290C on speaker in order to hear it ringing when I dial a number. If it's not on speaker, the person that I dial can't hear me when they answer. Could you please help! It's actually not my phone, it's my cousin's phone.
