Changing The Gmail Account For Market Application

To delete the disabled gmail account first used on my HTC Sense T-Mobile phone, the phone wants to revert to the manufacturer default. I don't want to lose all my contacts but can afford to lose all downloaded apps. If I answered to revert to the defaults, would I lose my contacts?
