Why Do Older Lg 290c And Lg 100c Tracfone Say 'data Service Not Available'?
why does my LG 290C (and my wifes LG 100C) Tracfone say "data service not available" when the browser button is pushed? we just Bought my daughter a brand new LG 100C it accesses the web just fine when the browser button is pushed. My wife and my phones are about a year old I contacted Tracfone about 6 mos ago online and was told that my phone (the LG 290C) needed to be reprogramed and they gave me a phone number to call them for further assistance. When I called the number I found that the customer service was an outsourced and I could tell the guy was using a script after being put on hold for at least 3 times I was told that my phone did not have data services. I tried to get help a few more times on the Tracfone website but no one would answer my questions, so I gave up.I searched the web and found a blog which basicaly told me that Tracfone was using U.S. Cellular in some places which did not have internet and Verizon in some place which had internet. We have U.S. Cellular. Now we bought a new LG 100C for my daughter and it accesses the web. I am confused I believe I have got the run around from Tracfone. Can someone please help me because the web browser was one of the reasons I bought this phone.

It is because Tracfone is unwilling to provide data service to your area. I had same problem and contacted Tracfone and was told that the local provider would not provide the service and that Tracfones towers in the area could not provide data service. I contacted the local provider and was told they did provide data service and thier towers could send data and that Tracfone was unwilling to provide the service in my area. After 30 minutes on the phone with Tracfone I finally got a superviser to admit that the only reason data service was not available was because Tracfone is unwilling to provide the service

Try contacting Customer Service. They have pretty good email support and I would go that route first. Might cause less of a headache, atleast in my opinion. It is good for questions, basic information, and complaints or suggestions.
