Does The Figure Showing As Owed On 2011 Return Include The Back Taxes I Owe?

When I enter W2 information on my joint return, which hasn't changed much over the last several years, I want to know if the amount showing as owed to the IRS includes the amount of back taxes I already owe from prior years.  In other words, at the end of my return, is the amount owed taking into consideration my refund minus what is owed or is the amount showing as owed IN ADDITION to what I owe in back taxes?
