why do i keep getting an email someone is trying to use my account when i don't have one?

Hi. It means your email has been used in error if not hacked. If you own the email and did NOT create the Twitter account, click the large gray Opt-out button. Your email account will be disassociated from the Twitter account, and you'll see a confirmation screen
