Uniden 3097 Dialing In To System To Delete Messages

I am following the directions in the manual but for some reason I cannot delete my messages when calling in to the system. I put in my code and wait for the message about time, number of messages and then wait for the beep . I enter 04 as instructed but nothing happens and I cannot delete the messages.Please help
