Can You Check A Walker As Luggage

My 87 year old mother is flying out of Ohare on Firday and needs to bring her walker with her... can she check it as luggage and get assistance to get to the gate along with my sister and brother in law who are flying with her

A walker can actually be gate checked, which means if she needs it to walk she can use it all the way to the gate and the flight attendant can put a bag tag on it right there and it will be waiting for her at baggage claim when she arrives. Somtimes they can also have the walker available as she deplanes, but it depends on the airport.

If she simply wants to check it at the ticket counter and not worry about it, she can certainly check it as luggage and there should not be a charge.
