Windows Cannot Access \\vmware-host\shared Folders\desktop. Why Is That?

You need to rephrase your question. Windows will not be able to access a VMware host directly. If you are running v5 then you must first enable tech support mode. On older versions (and 5 with TS mode on) you can only access the local storage via something like WinSCP. Since the OS is "Linux like" it doesnt support typical Windows file operations. Exactly what is it you are trying to do?
