Vizio Blu-ray Dvd Player To My Tv With Hdmi Cord

I set up my Vizio Blu-Ray DVD player to my TV with HDMI cord. It worked perfectly. Then it said the DVD player needed an upgrade. I pressed it for the upgrade, now the DVD player does not play at all. You can't even open the dvd to put a movie on. The only thing that works is the on/off button. What caused this and what can I do?
