Wd3200bevt Specification
I disassembled a HP "Back-up USB HD". Don't want the back-up function. I am about to wipe the HD, and noticed a jumper next to the power connector. What is its function. I refurbish laptops and tower computers. All I want is the proper function of a HD; and if there is some additional use for the little USB to SATA adapter? Hi there.
Most likely you're talking about the jumper block of the drive. Some SATA drivers have jumpers for extra features, or for troubleshooting. For instance, on SATA II drives a jumper is sometimes used to set the drive into SATA I mode for compatibility with older controllers. However, normally the drive would require no jumpers since it has SATA interface you can use to connect it to the motherboard.
