Wtw5600 Top Loader He Washer. Will Only Agitate After Hitting Pause/resume 2x

I have whirlpool WTW5600 top loader. It will go through fill stage but won't actually agitate unless I hit pause and resume (appararently that's getting the sensor to reengage the lock). If I don't do that, it will sit there and eventually drain the water and then do the same for the rinse cycle. Could this be a minor thing like a switch or local sensor?
