Follow these steps:

1) If not already, log into your Yahoo account and go to mail.

2) On the left side, click on the "Messenger" button (shows a smiley face).

3) Click the button that appears (it might say "Offline", "Available", or "Busy".

4) Select "Messenger Settings" from the menu that appears.

5) Click on "Block all users not in my contact list".

6) Click Save.

You shouldn't see spam messages anymore.
