It seems like your Acura TL experienced a momentary downshift into 2nd gear while the cruise control was set at 55 mph. Although the transmission feels strong and the car starts and runs well, you've noticed a noise when revving the engine. This could be due to a variety of factors, including potential transmission issues or something related to the engine. To address this, it's recommended to have a professional mechanic inspect your car to diagnose the specific cause of the noise and ensure there are no underlying problems.

The symptoms you are describing could be caused by a few different things, including:

A worn or damaged transmission synchronizer. This is a component that helps to smoothly engage gears. If it is worn or damaged, it can cause the transmission to pop out of gear, especially when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

A faulty shift solenoid. This is a valve that controls the flow of fluid to the transmission shift forks. If it is faulty, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or not at all.

A failing transmission control module (TCM). This is the computer that controls the transmission. If it is failing, it can cause all sorts of transmission problems, including shifting into 2nd gear unexpectedly.

The desal noise you are hearing when you rev the engine could be caused by a few different things as well, including:

A worn or damaged exhaust manifold. This is the component that connects the exhaust pipes to the engine. If it is worn or damaged, it can cause a rattling or popping noise when the engine is revved.

A leaking or cracked exhaust pipe. This can also cause a rattling or popping noise when the engine is revved.

A failing catalytic converter. This is a component that helps to reduce emissions. If it is failing, it can cause a rattling or popping noise when the engine is revved.

It is important to have your car inspected by a qualified mechanic to determine the exact cause of the problem. The mechanic will likely run a diagnostic test on the transmission and the engine to check for any codes that may be stored. They may also need to remove the transmission to inspect the synchronizers and other components.

Once the cause of the problem has been determined, the mechanic will be able to recommend the best course of action for repair. The cost of the repair will vary depending on the severity of the problem.
