Clutch Pedal Play On Sorn'd Gtv

Am experiencing difficulty in clutch disengagement from cold startup on SORN'd GTV 2.0 1999 model. Approx one & half inches pedal movement although have " pumped " the pedal prior to startup. Should the movement be much greater from the outset giving precise gear selection.
