Reinbursement For Airline Ticket

I had a business trip to San Francsico Calf. in Feb 2011 and decided to take my wife along. She became ill and was unable to accompany me. I provided doctors excuse, I have her ticket for $542.80 unused, I have no plans for future business trips as I have changed jobs. I wish to know if I can be reinbursed for my wifes ticket. This is a substantial amount for me and I want to be refunded for this ticket.
