Loadgage

My parents are going back home for Xmas, and someone from AA told them that as a policy of the airline they can not have a TV plasma check in as one of their loadgages.. Is this true?, we are willing to pay for extra wht. if necessary, Your prompt respond to my question will be greatly appreciated....
