Voltage Too High In Commercial Ac Unit

Our HVAC contractor says we're receiving too much power with voltage at 500 for ac unit.  Trane manufacturer recommends not to exceed 506 voltage. Please advise.  Thanks.

Assuming you building is on the standard service agreement with Comed your "normal" voltage will be 480 plus or minus 10 %. So 432 - 528 is what they are saying they will supply to you. The 506 number may have been calculated based upon +10 % on a 460 volt base. If this is indeed the case you may have to have a licensed electrician install a buck/boost transformer bank or equal to adjust the voltage. Protective relays may also be used to inhibit operation during out of range voltage.
