Hi Karin,

The first thing you should do is contact the airport directly and consult with their lost and found department. Make sure you have your flight information available, date, time of flight, flight number and airline. Should they be unable to locate it you can get her a replacement passport via a passport/expediting agency. I have a link below of an agency that I frequently use to renew passports and handle visas and they can also replace lost or stolen passports.
