Auto Setting Malfunction

When programming is set to AUTO position thermostat settings have no effect on heat or cool settings. If the unit is in heating then moving the setting will not cause the unit to switch from heat to cool even if setting is moved to 50 degrees. If the unit is cooling then moving setting to 90 degrees will not switch to heat mode even though it's in AUTO mode. AUTO MODE is of no use.
