There is a very good chance that you have not "been hacked" rather you have been victimized by an "impersonation attack". This uses faked emails sent to contacts of yours with your email address as the faked sender and the "reply to:" address. The goal is to get people who know and trust you to read the spam or phishing emails purportedly from you. The spammer/phisher may have gotten hold of an address list with your email address in it as well as your friends and other contacts, this is commonly done via malware (viruses, bots, etc.)from there it's simple to create a spam campaign. Did you forget the password for your Hotmail account?

Try the Hotmail Password Reset page. If that fails try the Windows Live ID Validation page.

Verify your account with a mobile phone (only available in some countries) - http://g.live.com/1rewlive4tup/tupp

Has your Hotmail account been hacked and/or compromised? Report a security vulnerability to Microsoft

If none of the above links are a possibility for you go to the Windows Live Account Validation page.

The links available at the security vulnerability page are the best chance to regain control of your account.

You can also e-mail [email protected] and [email protected] if someone else has control of your account.

After getting your account back immediately change your password, security question & answer, and your alternate email address.
