How Are The Files Written On This Drive?

I have one of these units (has 2 internal 1TB drives), and the unit died (won't power up)  I am able to open the unit and power each one separately, so I know the problem is with the unit, not the drives.  I want to get the files off the drives without paying LaCie $600 recovery fee.  Can I get another (newer) unit and try swapping the HDs. Or can I somehow plug the drives into another computer to try to get the files?  I think my best option is to get an identical unit, and try that way, but they have been discontinued for a year now.  Can I do this with a new model?

It's a RAID0.

Had the same problem with Lacie model #301346U (fried PCB). Solved it today with software from www.runtime.org called 'NAS data recovery'. You'll need a PC with 2 free SATA connections.

The trial version of the software allows you to check if the drives mount and analyze the Lacie RAID configuration. I was able to see my files and after buying the full version for USD99.00 I began copying the files to separate hard disk on the USB port.

Good luck

Martin
