The primary difference lies in the fact that Western Union has not only a larger global presence but that at any office worldwide you can send money anywhere else there is an office.
You will read that with Moneygram you can send money from the US elsewhere but you cannot send money if you are outside the US.
Moneygram also offers alternatives in money transfer delivery such as direct-to-account, ATMs and kiosks for deposit and cash receive, cash-to-a mobile phone and cash-to-card.
Moneygram has an $899.00 cap to the amount you can send at a time qhile Western Union has no such cap.
The cost to send from either company varies. Where Western Union may be cheaper from one particular country to another, Moneygram may be lower between two others.
You can find the transfer costs for Western Union here. And the Moneygram fees and exchange rates here.
