Problem With The Gear Selector Lever

I have a 2000 Saab 9-3 convertible with 64,000 miles. Last evening, I stated the car, put my foot on the brake pedal and proceeded to put my car in gear. The shift lever slides on the hub, but does not change gear from park. Can you assist? Thank you.
