Charging The Sandisk

The charge on my Sandisk clip only last an hour or two at the most. But it takes at least four or more hours to recharge the battery. Also, it just stops for no reason like someone shuts it off. And I have to start everything over again to play my music.  It's been this way since I bought this player a year ago in June. Is this normal or has it been faulty since I bought it?
