What you can't do is enter in your name, then switch the information to your child's name (just in case if that somehow happens). Make sure the information you're entering is the information about your child. When I took Spirit Airlines earlier this year, I selected myself as a child, because I'm still under 18. The process went smoothly, as any other airline. However, check the minor policy because depending on how old your child is there could be an extra fee for having your child travel alone.
Look on the site of Spirit Airlines at SpiritAirlines.com and even contact Spirit Airlines via email. They'll email back, and they are very informative. You can also visit your local airport of which Spirit flies out of and ask them everything. I don't recommend calling them though.
